Obverse description Draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, her hair elaborately waved and coiled in the characteristic Severan style, with a bun at the nape of the neck. The empress is depicted with fine drapery visible at the truncation. The Greek legend encircles the portrait, reading ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΔΟΜΝΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤ, identifying her as Julia Domna Augusta. The field is bounded by a beaded border.

Reverse description A tetrastyle temple shown in elevation, its four columns supporting a pediment, with the cult statue of Ephesian Artemis (Diana of Ephesus) depicted in the intercolumniation, the goddess shown in her characteristic stiff frontal pose with multiple pendulous breasts and lateral ornaments. A garlanded altar is shown in the exergue. The ethnic legend ΗΡΑΚΛΕΩΤΩΝ appears in the field, identifying the issuing city of the Heracleans.
