Obverse description Draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, her hair elaborately waved and coiled at the nape in the characteristic Severan style. The empress is depicted with a diadem, and her drapery falls across the truncation of the bust. The obverse legend encircles the portrait field, identifying her with the title Augusta. The coin's heavy patination and worn surfaces reflect the provincial hammered fabric typical of Asia Minor civic issues of the early third century AD.

Additional information

Trapezopolis was a minor Lydian city of limited political weight, and its coinage reflects a community making deliberate use of the Roman imperial portrait to assert civic status within the Alabanda conventus. The magistrate names preserved in the legend — Adrastos and Zeuxitheos — are among the few epigraphic traces of local administration that survive from the Severan period, making the inscription itself a document of provincial governance as much as a coin type.
