| Reverse description | Standing figure of Heracles, nude and bearded, depicted in three-quarter view facing right. The hero rests his right hand on his hip in a pose of repose, while his left arm is draped with the Nemean lion skin and leans upon a club that rests upright on a rocky outcrop. The composition is characteristic of provincial Bithynian iconography drawing on Hellenistic sculptural prototypes of the hero at rest. The ethnic legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ appears in the field, identifying the issuing city of Nicaea. |
