| Reverse description | Two tall lighted torches, each entwined by a serpent with head raised toward the flame, stand upright on a low base on either side of a central flaming altar; the composition is symmetrically arranged within a beaded border. The torches and serpents, symbols of mystery cult and sacred rites, reflect the religious significance of Cyzicus as a neokorate city. The Greek civic legend ΚΥΖΙΚΗΝΩΝ ΝΕΟΚΟΡΩΝ encircles the type, proclaiming the city's honored status as temple-warden of the imperial cult. |
