| Reverse description | Tetrastyle temple with four columns and a rounded pediment, enclosing a frontal cult statue of Apollo holding a patera in his outstretched right hand; at the base of the statue, a lighted altar. The architectural rendering reflects the local veneration of Apollo at Chalcedon and is typical of the civic temple-type reverses issued by Bithynian cities under the Severan and Gordian dynasties. The city ethnic legend ΚΑΛΧΑΔΟΝΙΩΝ is disposed around the periphery of the field. |
