| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, portrayed from a three-quarter rear perspective, conveying a dynamic military character typical of mid-third-century provincial Roman coinage. The emperor's paludamentum is visible over the cuirass, with the laureate wreath rendered in relatively high relief despite the worn flan. The Latin legend surrounds the effigy along the periphery of the field. |

| Reverse description | The syncretic deity Sarapis, wearing a modius (kalathos) on his head, reclines to the left upon a kline (ceremonial couch or bier), holding an eagle in his outstretched right hand and a long sceptre in his left. The kline is rendered with decorative legs visible below. The composition, enclosed within a beaded border, reflects the strong Egyptianizing religious influence prevalent at Sinope during the Severan and Gordian periods. The Latin colonial legend arcs around the upper field, incorporating the city's era date CCCXI (year 311 of the Sinopean era, corresponding to 241-242 AD). |
