Reverse description The syncretic deity Sarapis reclines to the left upon an ornate kline (ceremonial couch or bier), his body semi-draped in flowing robes. In his extended right hand he holds an eagle, while his left arm supports a long sceptre — attributes emblematic of his divine sovereignty and chthonic power. The scene is framed by the colonial civic legend in the exergue and field, recording the Sinopean era date CCCVIII (year 308) and the colonial formula C R I F S.
