| Obverse description | Draped and cuirassed laureate bust of Emperor Commodus, with long beard, facing right and seen from the rear, wearing paludamentum over cuirass. The obverse legend encircles the portrait in Greek characters, reading ΑΥ ΚΑΙ Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙ ΚΟΜΜΟΔΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature. The rendering of the bust from the rear is a distinctive provincial die-cutting convention associated with the Cyzicene mint during this period. |
