| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of the emperor Caracalla facing right, rendered from a rear three-quarter perspective, displaying the articulated musculature of the cuirass. The imperial effigy is encircled by a beaded border. The Greek legend ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ ΑΥΓΟΥϹΤΟϹ runs around the periphery of the field, identifying the emperor by his adoptive name Antoninus Augustus. The style is consistent with provincial bronze coinage struck at Nicomedia during the Severan period. |
