Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian I facing right, depicted from a three-quarter rear perspective, a compositional convention characteristic of certain provincial issues of the joint reign. The imperial effigy is rendered in the typical provincial style of the Ionian mint workshops, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The encircling Greek legend identifies the emperor by his full titulature and runs along the outer periphery of the field.
