| Reverse description | The celebrated sanctuary of Aphrodite at Paphos depicted in frontal elevation, showing a tetrastyle or distyle temple facade with a decorated entablature bearing a wreath frieze. Within the open cella, the iconic conical aniconic xoanon of Aphrodite is prominently displayed, flanked by two smaller columnar elements or altars. The entire temple complex rests upon a stepped podium, and a curved enclosure wall or temenos boundary is rendered below, giving a schematic bird's-eye perspective of the sacred precinct. The surrounding Greek legend reads ΔΗΜΑΡΧ ΕΞ ΥΠΑΤΟ Ϛ ΚΟΙΝΟΝ ΚΥΠΡΙΩΝ, referencing Trajan's sixth tribunician power and the Koinon of Cyprus. |
