Reverse description Dionysus standing facing with head turned to left, holding an uncertain object extended over a panther at his feet with his right hand, while his left arm rests upon a long thyrsus. The panther, sacred animal of the god, crouches or reclines at lower right. The composition reflects the standard Dionysiac iconography common to provincial bronze coinage of Bithynia, evoking the god's association with wine, revelry, and the wild. The ethnic legend of Iuliopolis is disposed around the field.
