Aegae was one of the more obscure cities of Aeolis — small enough that its civic coinage is poorly represented in major collections, yet persistent in issuing bronzes under nearly every Severan emperor. The magistrate named in the legend, Apollodoros, is known from only a handful of dies, making his tenure as strategos both datable and unusually traceable through the surviving material.
