Reverse description Statilia Messalina, Nero's third wife, portrayed in the guise of Securitas seated to the right on a throne or chair. The figure is draped and shown in a relaxed posture with one arm raised and resting against the head, the other arm lowered, conveying the iconographic attributes of Securitas. The Greek legend ΜΕΣΣΑΛΕΙΝΑ ΓΥΝΕ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΥ ('Messalina, Wife of the Augustus') is inscribed in the field, identifying the empress. This reverse type is notable as one of the rare provincial coin issues honoring Statilia Messalina, struck at Nicaea in Bithynia.
