Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from the rear in the characteristic three-quarter view. The radiate crown with pointed rays is clearly rendered atop the imperial portrait. The paludamentum and scale cuirass are visible, conveying the emperor's military authority. A Greek legend runs around the periphery within a beaded border.
