Obverse description Confronted busts of Emperor Gordian III, laureate, draped and cuirassed, facing right and seen from the rear, and the Graeco-Egyptian deity Sarapis, draped and wearing the modius, facing left, with a cornucopia positioned behind his left shoulder. The Imperial legend encircles the busts along the periphery of the flan. The composition reflects the syncretic religious associations promoted at Odessus, where Sarapis held particular civic importance.
