| Obverse description | Confronted busts of Emperor Gordian III and Empress Tranquillina face one another across the field: Gordian III appears laureate, draped, and cuirassed to the right as seen from the rear, while Tranquillina faces left, her effigy diademed and draped. The imperial couple are depicted in the characteristic Roman provincial antithetical bust arrangement. The encircling obverse legend names both rulers in Greek characters. |
