| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, seen from the rear, the radiate crown rendered in bold relief. The effigy displays youthful imperial portraiture characteristic of early Severan provincial coinage. A Greek legend runs along the outer rim of the obverse field, partially preserved and reading ...ΑΝΤωΝΙΝΟϹ, referencing the emperor's official name Antoninus. The flan is thick and irregular, consistent with provincial hammered bronze production of the eastern Roman Empire in the early third century AD. |
