Additional information

Tanagra's civic bronze issues under Commodus belong to a period when the emperor was increasingly absent from the administrative realities of the provinces, leaving local elites to manage — and fund — the public expression of imperial loyalty. Boeotian civic coinage from this stretch is sparsely documented, and IV.1#7479 remains one of the less frequently cited types in the series.
