| Obverse description | Laureate, draped bust of Emperor Commodus facing right, rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of Achaean civic coinage. The portrait displays the characteristic features of Commodus with radiate wreath of laurel. A circular Greek legend surrounds the imperial effigy, identifying the emperor by his adoptive name Antoninus with the epithet Pius. The flan is irregular and the surface heavily patinated, consistent with a hammered provincial bronze of the late 2nd century AD. |
