| Reverse description | Athena depicted standing to the left in full figure, clad in a long chiton and himation rendered with fine drapery folds visible in relief. She extends her right hand forward holding a patera, while her left arm supports an upright spear. A large round shield rests at her side to the left. The surrounding Greek legend ϹΤΡ ΗΡΑΚΛΕΙΔΟΥ ϹΜΥΡΝΑΙΩΝ, referencing the strategus Herakleides and the city of the Smyrnaeans, runs along the periphery of the coin. The reverse typology is typical of Ionian civic bronzes of the Antonine-Severan period, emphasizing the city's patronal deity. |
