| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Emperor Commodus facing right, depicted with a medium-length beard, wearing cuirass and paludamentum, the figure seen from the rear in the characteristic Asiatic provincial style. The imperial effigy is rendered in high relief with careful attention to military dress. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥ ΚΑΙ Μ ΑΥΡ(Η) ΚΟΜΜΟΔΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his titulature. The flan is irregular, as typical of provincial bronze coinage struck at Cyzicus during the Antonine period. |
