Reverse description Athena standing frontally, head turned to the left, clad in peplos and aegis. She extends her right hand forward holding a patera, while her left arm supports a large round shield viewed from the interior, its inner surface and grip visible. The civic ethnic legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ is disposed around the field, identifying the issuing city of Nicaea. The composition reflects the standard Athenaic type widely employed on the civic bronzes of Bithynian cities during the third century AD.
