| Reverse description | Apollo Klarios, nude to the waist, seated left upon an omphalos or throne, holding a laurel branch directed downward in his right hand and resting his left arm upon a kithara (lyre) set on the ground beside him. The composition reflects the close cultic association of Colophon with the oracle sanctuary of Apollo at Klaros, a major religious center in the conventus of Ephesus. The multi-line Greek legend, divided by the figure, identifies the issuing magistrate in the field and exergue. |
