Reverse description Tetrastyle temple with arcuated lintel rendered in frontal elevation, the columns supporting a curved pediment in the Syrian arch style. Within the intercolumniation stands a cult statue of Samian Hera, the principal deity of the island, depicted frontally. The architectural rendering reflects the actual appearance of the Heraion of Samos, one of the most celebrated sanctuaries of the ancient Greek world. The ethnic legend ϹΑΜΙΩΝ appears in the field or exergue, identifying the issuing civic authority.
