| Reverse description | Frontal view of the famous temple of Aphrodite at Paphos (Palaepaphos), rendered schematically with two columns flanking a central bay, a horizontal entablature, and a semicircular temenos or peribolos enclosure below. Within the central intercolumniation stands the sacred conical xoanon (baetyl) of Aphrodite, the aniconic cult idol of the sanctuary. The Greek legend is distributed around the reverse field, recording Trajan's tribunician power and sixth consulship, and attributing the issue to the Koinon of Cyprus. |
