Reverse description Dionysus, the god of wine, is depicted seated and facing right in a biga drawn by two panthers, which stride dynamically to the right. The god is shown in a relaxed, enthroned posture, likely holding his characteristic thyrsus or kantharos. The composition fills the flan in the bold, competent style characteristic of Nicaean civic bronze coinage of the Severan period. The ethnic legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ is inscribed around the reverse field, identifying the issuing city.
