Additional information

Maeonia was a minor inland community in Lydia whose civic coinage depended entirely on the goodwill — and occasionally the vanity — of local magistrates seeking public prominence. The retrograde Ζ in the archon Zenon's name is almost certainly a die-cutter's error, not a deliberate archaism, and it recurs consistently enough across known specimens to confirm it was never corrected during the life of that obverse die.
