| Reverse description | Asclepius, the god of medicine, stands facing with head turned to the left, his right hand resting on a serpent-entwined staff (the caduceus of Asclepius). Opposite him stands Hygieia, goddess of health, facing right, extending a patera from which she feeds the sacred serpent coiled toward her. The composition is a standard paired divine type frequently encountered on civic bronzes of the Pergamene conventus, emphasizing the healing cult associations of the issuing city. The ethnic legend ΑΚΡΑϹΙΩΤΩΝ is disposed around the figures in the field. |
