| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Maximus (Caesar) facing right, depicted from the rear in the characteristic provincial three-quarter back view. The legend surrounding the effigy reads Γ ΙΟΥ ΟΥΗ ΜΑΖΙΜΟϹ in Greek characters, with a retrograde zeta, identifying the subject as Gaius Julius Verus Maximus. The coin exhibits the robust, somewhat rough die-cutting typical of Bithynian provincial bronze issues of the Severan-to-Gordian transitional period. |
