Additional information

Corinth's position as capital of the Roman province of Achaea gave its civic mint unusual latitude in choosing reverse types, and the Isthmian Games — revived under Julius Caesar's refounding of the city in 44 BC after a century of abandonment — remained central to Corinthian civic identity well into the Antonine period. Issues referencing the Isthmia were produced across multiple reigns from the same city, making die linkage studies between specimens the primary tool for narrowing attribution within Marcus Aurelius's nineteen-year reign.
