(Translation: Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, Augustus)
Reverse description Nude Mercury (Hermes) seated left upon a rocky outcrop, his petasus (winged traveler's hat) upon his head. His extended right hand is held above a ram standing before him, while his left hand grasps the caduceus and a chlamys (short cloak). The composition evokes the god's role as divine shepherd and patron of commerce, rendered in a style consistent with provincial Roman colonial coinage of the Antonine period.
