| Reverse description | Roma seated left upon a cuirass and shield, holding a small Nike on her extended right hand, the personification of victory alluding to imperial power. Behind Roma, a turreted figure of Tyche, the city-goddess of Edessa, stands left and extends her hand to crown Roma. To the right of the composition, a goat stands as a civic emblem of Edessa. The reverse legend ΕΔΕϹϹΑΙΩΝ in Greek identifies the issuing city. The overall composition reflects the loyalty of the Macedonian city to Rome and its imperial cult during Hadrian's eastern tour. |
