Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted three-quarter from the rear, a common provincial convention emphasizing the imperial paludamentum and armor. The effigy displays youthful facial features consistent with Gordian III's portraiture. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust within the border of the flan, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The style is characteristic of the Smyrnaean civic mint of the mid-third century AD.
