| Obverse description | Confronted busts of Emperor Gordian III and Empress Tranquillina face one another across the field: Gordian III appears at right, laureate, draped, and cuirassed, seen from the rear, while Tranquillina faces left with a diademed and draped bust. The encircling legend names both imperial figures in Greek characters, running around the periphery of the flan. The arrangement of the paired imperial effigies is characteristic of the Severan-era provincial coinage tradition, emphasizing dynastic unity. The style and execution are consistent with the civic bronze issues of Mesambria in Thrace during the joint reign. |

| Reverse description | Demeter stands facing left in the reverse field, rendered in a dignified, classicizing style typical of Thracian civic bronzes. She holds a bundle of ears of corn in her right hand and in her left a long sceptre entwined by a serpent, symbols of fertility and chthonic authority. The figure is depicted in full length, draped in a flowing chiton and himation. The ethnic legend of the Mesambrians is disposed around the figure in Greek majuscules. The composition reflects the city's religious veneration of Demeter as a presiding deity. |
