Obverse description Draped bust of Sabinia Tranquillina, wife of Gordian III, facing right, wearing a diadem, her hair elaborately arranged in the court fashion of the mid-third century. The portrait is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Bithynian civic coinage, with the legend encircling the effigy in Greek characters. The flan is irregular, and the surface shows the typical patination of a circulated bronze provincial issue.
