| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, the laureate wreath rendered in relief with individual leaves clearly delineated, drapery visible over the left shoulder. The imperial effigy is portrayed in the prevailing provincial style of the mid-third century AD, with the truncation of the bust set low on the flan. A Greek legend encircles the portrait, reading Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΥΓ, identifying the emperor as Marcus Antonius Gordianus Augustus. |
