Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Domitian facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the front, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The imperial effigy is portrayed in the customary Flavian military style, with the laurel wreath as a symbol of divine and imperial authority. The encircling Greek legend runs along the inner border of the coin, which is defined by a beaded border. A piercing hole is noted to the lower left of the bust, indicating later secondary use as a pendant or amulet.

Additional information

Silandus was a minor Lydian city whose civic coinage under the Flavians depended heavily on the goodwill of the Sardis conventus — the Roman judicial district that effectively licensed local minting. The magistrate named Demophilos recorded here as strategos held office for a second term (ΤΟ Β), which is explicit in the legend and relatively uncommon to document so precisely on provincial bronze of this scale.
