| Reverse description | Two standing figures occupy the reverse field in a facing composition. To the left, the hero Lakedaimonios stands facing, his head turned to the right, holding a branch in one hand and a spear in the other, rendered in a relaxed, heroic stance. To the right, the winged Nemesis of Smyrna stands facing left, plucking her chiton at the breast in her characteristic gesture of humility and retribution, and holding a cubit rule (measuring rod); at her feet lies a wheel, her traditional attribute symbolizing the turning of fate. The reverse legend, distributed across the field, records the name of the Smyrnaean strategos Herakleides and the homonoia reference, situating this issue within the civic coinage celebrating concordat between Smyrna and Lakedaimon. |
