Obverse description Draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, her hair elaborately waved and coiled in the characteristic Severan style with a bun at the nape, set within a circular border. The empress is depicted with finely rendered drapery over the shoulders and chest. The Greek legend is disposed around the bust in the field, identifying her as Augusta Julia. The portrait exhibits the formal, idealized rendering typical of provincial civic coinage of Asia Minor under the Severan dynasty.
