Obverse description Bare laureate head of the emperor Caracalla facing right, rendered in the typical provincial style of the early third century AD. The portrait displays the characteristic youthful features associated with Caracalla's early reign, with the laurel wreath clearly delineated around the brow. The encircling legend reading M AV ANTONINVS PIVS AVG runs along the periphery of the flan. The field is heavily patinated, with the surface showing considerable wear and encrustation consistent with long-term burial.
