| Obverse description | Bare head of Marcus Aurelius, with short beard, facing right. The portrait is rendered in the provincial style typical of Syro-Palestinian civic coinage under the Antonine dynasty, with the youthful features and short cropped beard characteristic of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar. The Greek legend surrounding the effigy identifies him as Caesar and son of the Augustus. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show considerable wear and encrustation consistent with the coin's age and bronze composition. |
