| Obverse description | Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian I facing right, depicted from the rear in the so-called 'heroic' three-quarter perspective typical of mid-third century provincial coinage. The radiate crown with pointed rays frames the imperial effigy prominently within the field. The circular Greek legend runs around the periphery identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The flan is slightly irregular, characteristic of hand-struck provincial bronzes of this period. |

| Reverse description | The emperor, radiate and in military attire, is depicted mounted on a galloping horse moving to the right, thrusting a spear downward toward a fallen or cowering enemy beneath the horse's hooves, a composition conveying imperial military virtue and dominance. The dynamic equestrian scene occupies the full field of the flan, with the circular Greek legend distributed around the periphery referencing the city's twice-awarded neocorate status. A beaded border frames the design. The style is consistent with the civic bronze coinage of Nicomedia under the joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus. |
