Reverse description The radiate emperor, identified as Gallienus, is depicted on horseback in dynamic profile facing left, mounted on a trotting horse with raised foreleg. The emperor raises his right hand in a gesture of salutation or adlocutio, a standard motif of imperial authority on provincial coinage. The composition fills the field with confident, if somewhat summary, provincial workmanship. A Greek civic legend runs around the periphery of the flan, referencing Nicomedia's twice-granted neocorate status. The dotted border frames the design on both inner and outer edges.
