Reverse description Demeter standing facing, head turned to the left, rendered in full-length draped figure with flowing garments. In her right hand she holds a long torch angled diagonally, and in her left hand she carries ears of grain (corn), emblematic of her role as goddess of the harvest and fertility. A small figure, possibly a child (Plutus or an attendant), appears at her feet to the lower left. The Greek civic legend encircles the type, asserting Nicomedia's proud status as a twice-neocorate city.
