| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus facing right, with characteristic curled beard rendered in the Severan style. The effigy displays the emperor in military attire, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. A Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The portrait is executed in the provincial style typical of Bithynian civic coinage, with bold, if somewhat roughly struck, facial features. The flan is irregular and shows the characteristic fabric of hammered provincial bronze coinage. |
