Obverse description Draped bust of the Senate personified facing right, rendered with naturalistic modelling characteristic of mid-third-century provincial coinage. The effigy displays a veiled or wreathed head with visible drapery at the shoulder. The circular Greek legend ΙΕΡΑ ϹΥΝΚΛΗΤΟϹ (Sacred Senate) runs around the periphery of the field, identifying the personification. The die work is bold, with moderately high relief consistent with the hammered technique employed at Phocaea during the reign of Philip I.
