Additional information

Patras held the status of a Roman colony — Colonia Aroe Augusta Patrensis — since Augustus refounded it circa 14 BC, settling veterans there and granting it full colonial privileges. That standing is almost certainly what prompted the city to issue bronze coinage under Marcus Aurelius at all; colonial cities in Achaea retained the right to strike local bronze precisely because of their privileged constitutional position relative to ordinary Greek poleis under the province.

The reference IV.1#7664 places this within the RPC Online corpus, where Patran bronzes of this reign remain sparsely documented by find context.
