| Obverse description | Youthful bare-headed bust of Commodus as Caesar, draped in paludamentum, facing right and seen from the rear, with the Greek legend Λ ΑΥΡ ΚΟΜΟΔΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ disposed around the periphery of the field. The portrait reflects the early Caesar typology of Commodus prior to his elevation as Augustus, with soft juvenile facial features characteristic of provincial Mysian die-cutting of the Antonine period. |
