Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Demos personified, facing right, with curly hair adorned with a laurel wreath, the drapery visible at the truncation. The portrait is rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of Phrygian civic coinage of the Hadrianic period. The circular legend ΔΗΜΟϹ ΕΥΚΑΡΠΕΩΝ runs around the bust, identifying the effigy as the personified people of Eucarpia. A dotted border frames the entire design.

Additional information

Eucarpia was a minor Phrygian city whose civic coinage under Hadrian reflects a broader pattern of provincial self-promotion during his reign — a period when the emperor's extensive tours through the eastern provinces encouraged local communities to assert their identities through bronze issues. The magistrate name preserved in the legend, Pedia Secunda, is one of the very few epigraphic attestations of a woman holding civic administrative responsibility in the conventus of Apamea, making this piece a rare documentary artifact as much as a coin.
