Additional information

Sardis, as the administrative seat of its conventus, held a privileged position among the cities of Lydia under Roman rule — the right to strike civic bronze was both a financial tool and a public declaration of local status. Hadrian's relationship with the Greek East was unusually active; his multiple tours through Asia Minor generated a wave of civic coinage issues as cities competed to honor his presence and secure his patronage.

The reference to the Sardian conventus in the coin's legend reflects the Roman administrative reorganization of the province, not merely civic pride.
